Editors Notes:
Enthusiasts were out in force for the Great Central Railway's May 11th to May 13th 2018 "Goods Gala". One thing that no other preserved railway can do is to provide the spectacle of trains passing each other on a double-track main line so we joined a train heading to and from Loughborough to witness and record the sight of goods trains passing our train, which was hauled by Stanier class 8F no 48624, the only preserved Southern Railway built 8F. The trains we pass are a rake of mineral wagons headed by Modified Hall class no 6990 "Witherslack Hall" and a van train entering the station as we depart, hauled by the hissing Ivatt class 2MT no 46521, a last-minute substitute for its BR descendant no 78018 which had been withdrawn from the event the previous day.
