The Talyllyn Railway marked the centenaries of both the RAF (created on 1st April 1918) and their own locomotive no 6 "Douglas" which had been built by Andrew Barclay Sons & Co in 1918 as an E class machine. It was put to work by the RAF on the Calshot Camp Railway on the western bank of Southampton Water which opened in 1919. The engine was known as "Airservice Constructional Corps No. 1" and worked at Calshot until 1949 when it was sold to Abelson & Co. (Engineers) Ltd. who then sold it to the Talyllyn in 1953, where it was named "Douglas" after the donor, Douglas Abelson. For 2018 it has been repainted in RAF blue with its original name added and sporting an RAF roundel. Here we see it taking the token at Brynglas crossing heading the "Calshot Express' on Saturday 2nd June 2018.
