The first batch of five bodyshells for Hitachi departed from Japan on the Höegh Tokyo at the end of August and arrived on Tyneside this week. Following unloading, the bodyshells, which are destined to form part of the InterCity Express Programme, are shipped to Newton Aycliffe where they will be fitted out.
The new Class 800/801 units are destined for operation on the Great Western and East Coast main lines and are scheduled to enter service from 2017 onwards.
