The latest stage in the Corwen Central Railway Development Project has seen a major item of railway infrastructure installed at the station site in the form of a traditional style of parachute water tank, as used in the steam era.

Two 1960s-built diesel locomotives stepped in yesterday to carry passengers into the heart of the Lake District for the first time in two weeks, since the timetable chaos started with usual operator Northern Rail. The legendary Hunslet 0-6-4ST NWNGR locomotive will travel to the beautiful Beddgelert station for the first time since the 1900s! In May 2016 the mid-Wales heritage line won a £42,500 Government Grant to improve access to its trains for wheelchair-bound visitors. The grant, announced by then Minister for Rail Claire Perry MP, was made as part of the £1 million Heritage and Community Rail Tourism Innovation competition, run by the Challenge Fund of the Department for Transport and the Rail Safety & Standards Board (RSSB).

A first cousin to Her Majesty the Queen – and with an interest in heritage railways and steam locomotives – Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, visited the award-winning heritage line on Friday, 8 June, 2018, accompanied by the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, Angus Campbell, who is the Queen’s representative in the county.

The prestigious Queen's Award for Voluntary Service is regarded as the MBE, the Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, for voluntary groups.

Jordan Bailey from Wymington has started a gofundme page with hopes of raising a target of £100,000 to bring the engine back to working condition. For the time being the Rushden Transport Museum will treat the locomotive to a new lick of paint over the summer, with long-term plans of a full restoration.

The boiler for No. 2007 will be similar to that which was built by DB Dampflokwerk Meiningen, Germany for new Peppercorn A1 class No. 60163 Tornado in 2006/7, being a fully welded design with a steel firebox.

The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust owns the design rights to the boiler and it is intended that a number of minor modifications that have been applied to Tornado’s boiler since it was originally built will be incorporated into this design. The royal guest will be travelling on a special train from Swanage to Corfe Castle on Friday, 8 June, 2018, in the company of the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, Angus Campbell, who is the Queen’s representative for the county.
